American Budgerigars / Parakeets

Commonly sold as just "parakeets" or referred to as "love birds", budgerigars are small grass seed-eating parakeets native to the savannas of Australia, and they are the only member of their genus, Melopsittacus.

Both males and females can learn to talk, and they can learn to enjoy head scritches from their favorite person. With big personalities in a tiny package, budgie parakeets make for highly curious and entertaining pet parrots!

American budgerigars can live 10-15+ years with proper care.

Lineolated Parakeets / Linnies

Adorably nicknamed "linnies", these little parrots are native to tropical and high-altitude cloud forests of South America. They require a bit of humidity and more fresh foods than Australian parrots.

Unlike most long-tailed parakeets, linnies have dextrous feet and tongues, and (fun fact) they don't like to poop where they sleep! They are generally a quieter species that love to burrow and explore nooks and crannies = naturally cuddly pocket-parrots!

Linnies can live 15-20+ years with proper care

English Budgerigars

The English variety of budgerigar has been selectively bred for a larger body type and longer feathers. They tend to have a calmer temperament than their wild-type cousins but the largest-bodied and longest-feathered may be less healthy and not fly skillfully. As such, I breed towards balance and moderation.

English budgies are just as playful and intelligent as their smaller cousins, with some extra floof to love!

Responsibly bred English budgerigars can live 7-10+ years with proper care.

Bourke's Parakeets

Bourke's are also Australian natives, recently classified into their own genus, Neosephotus. Bourkes are crepuscular, meaning they are most active during dusk and dawn, with tinkling bell-like whistles and chirps. They primarily nap midday - perhaps on your shoulder?

Bourkes don't preen one another, so they prefer not to be petted, but they are sweet, intelligent, very quiet, and possibly the least destructive species of pet parrots.
